Encounter Level 21<br />

SETUP<br />

The evolved atropal scion (A) hides in the crater, unnoticeable<br />

unless the PCs approach from overhead. The two<br />

famine spirits (F) lurk in the Ichor Sea. The players place<br />

their miniatures on the edge of the map from the direction<br />

they approached the encounter.<br />

When the PCs have placed their miniatures, read:<br />

A deep crater forms a depression in the surface of<br />

the moonlet. The impact must have been<br />

impressive, since cracks spread out from the impact<br />

site. A 5-foot-tall lip forms a ring around the hole.<br />

Broken rock and scree spreads out in all directions.<br />

A filthy black lake stretches north.<br />

under the atropal scion’s control 1 minute later.<br />

Death Gaze (Su) Death, range 60 feet, Fortitude DC 35<br />

negates. A humanoid that dies from this attack is<br />

transformed into a wight 24 hours later.<br />

Unholy Grace (Su) An evolved atropal scion adds its<br />

Charisma bonus to its Armor Class and on saving throws.<br />

Aura of Pain (Su) A famine spirit radiates a continual<br />

symbol of pain effect (Fort DC 28 negates) as a 60-footradius<br />

emanation. The effect imposes a –4 penalty on<br />

attack rolls, skill checks, and ability checks. A creature<br />

that fails its save is affected while within the area and<br />

for 10 minutes after leaving it. A successful save makes<br />

a creature immune to that famine spirit’s aura for 24<br />

hours.<br />

Vorpal Bite (Ex) A critical hit with a famine spirit’s bite<br />

attack against a Large or smaller opponent severs the<br />

victim’s head.<br />

Create Spawn (Su) A humanoid or monstrous humanoid of<br />

Medium or smaller size killed by a famine spirit rises<br />

after 1d3 days as a famine spirit under the famine<br />

spirit’s control. The creature does not possess any of<br />

the abilities it had in life.<br />

Ethereal Jaunt (Su) As the ethereal jaunt spell; 3/day; caster<br />

level 20th.
