Alternative methods shall be developed, based for instance on self-protected epitaxial structures. The new technique shall be demonstrated with the production of the first prototypes, which will tested and be evaluated. Deliverables: 20 - 30 GaAs solar cells (demonstrators) with the newly developed protection technique and an evaluation report of old and new protection methods, including assessment at system level and costing. The activity will concentrate on CdTe solar cells, CuInSe2 (CIS) based solar cells, silicon and micromorph silicon solar cells. Deliverables: At least 1 development sample (mini module) for each solar cell type shall be produced.
