The Chevrolet Cruze will replace the Cobalt in the US in 2010. It went on sale in
South Korea in 2008 as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere. Exports from the South
Korean factory to Europe and Australia began in early 2009. In Australia, it is the
Holden JG Cruze. Local production of the Cruze at Holden’s Elizabeth, South
Australia plant is expected to begin in March, 2011. Production of the North
American version is expected to begin in mid-June, 2010 at GM’s Lordstown, OH
plant.[49,62:63]
2.1.11 Hyundai
The Equus luxury sedan debuted in South Korea in 1999. A second-generation
model went on sale there in March, 2009 and in the People’s Republic of China
in August, 2009. Hyundai plans to bring it to the US in August, 2010.[64]
Production of the Hyundai Entourage minivan began in April, 2006 and ended in
the summer of 2009 due to low sales. It was produced at Kia’s Sohari plant in
South Korea alongside the Kia Sedona.[65] Hyundai’s 2010 sports car, the
Genesis coupe, went on sale in the US in February, 2009. Built at the Ulsan,
South Korea plant, it was released in October, 2008 for the Korean market.[66]
2.1.12 Honda
Honda manufacturing in Lincoln, AL began building the Honda Ridgeline in
February, 2009. The pick-up had been built in Honda Motor Co.’s Alliston,
Ontario, Canada plant.[67] In December, 2009, Honda’s Alliston Ontario plant
began building the 2010 Acura ZDX, a mid-side luxury crossover. The plant also
produces the Acura MDX and Honda Civic.[68]
Honda began building its 2009 Honda Accord V-6 at its Lincoln plant in July,
2009. It had been built at the Marysville, OH plant. The V-6 Accord is the first
car to be built at the plant which also builds the Odyssey minivan, Pilot
crossover, and Ridgeline pickup. The Honda Accord V-4 will continue to be built
at the Marysville plant.[69]
Honda’s Greensburg, IN plant began producing the Civic in October, 2008. With
this plant online, the East Liberty, OH plant will increase production of the CR-V.
About 40 percent of the CR-Vs sold in the US in the first nine months of 2008
were built at the East Liberty plant; the remainder were imported from Japan and
Mexico.[70] Honda introduced the Accord Crosstour in model year 2010 and
deleted the S2000 sports car from its lineup.[71] Honda began building the 2010
Accord Crosstour in November, 2009 at the East Liberty plant, which also builds
the CR-V and Element.[72]
2.1.13 Isuzu
Once a lucrative light-duty vehicle in the US, Isuzu announced in 2008 that it was
pulling out of the US passenger vehicle market in February, 2009.[73] Isuzu
Motors America stopped delivering new vehicles to dealerships in North America
in late January, 2009.[74]
