CE: A charge that either a labor organization or an employer, or both<br />

jointly, have committed an unfair labor practice in violation of section<br />

8(e).<br />

CP: A charge that a labor organization has committed unfair labor practices<br />

in violation of section 8(b) (7) (A), (B), or (C), or any combination<br />

thereof.<br />

R Cases (representation cases)<br />

A case number which contains the first letter designation R, in<br />

combination with another letter, i.e., RC, RD, RM, indicates that it<br />

is a petition for investigation and determination of a question concerning<br />

representation of employees, filed under section 9(c) of the<br />

Act.<br />

RC: A petition filed by a labor organization or an employee alleging that<br />

a question concerning representation has arisen and seeking an election<br />

for the determination of a collective-bargaining representative.<br />

RM: A petition filed by an employer alleging that a question concerning<br />

representation has arisen and seeking an election for the determination<br />

of a collective-bargaining representative.<br />

RD: A petition filed by employees alleging that the union previously<br />

certified or currently recognized by the employer as their collectivebargaining<br />

representative no longer represents a majority of the<br />

employees in the appropriate unit and seeking an election to determine<br />

this.<br />

Other Cases<br />

AC: (Amendment of Certification cases) : A petition filed by a labor<br />

organization or an employer for amendment of an existing certification<br />

to reflect changed circumstances, such as changes in the name<br />

or affiliation of the labor organization involved or in the name or<br />

, location of the employer involved.<br />

AO: (Advisory Opinion cases) : As distinguished from the other types of<br />

cases described above, which are filed in and processed by regional<br />

offices of the <strong>Board</strong>, AO or "advisory opinion" cases are filed directly<br />

with the <strong>Board</strong> in Washington and seek a determination as to<br />

whether the <strong>Board</strong> would or would not assert jurisdiction in any<br />

given situation on the basis of its current standards, over the party<br />

or parties to a proceeding pending before a State or territorial<br />

agency or a court. (See subpart H of the <strong>Board</strong>'s Rules and Regulations,<br />

Series 8, as amended.)<br />

UC: (Unit Clarification cases) : A petition filed by a labor organization or<br />

an employer seeking a determination as to whether certain classifications<br />

of employees should or should not be included within a presently<br />

existing bargaining unit.<br />

UD: (Union Deauthorization cases) : A petition filed by employees pursuant<br />

to section 9(e) (1) requesting that the <strong>Board</strong> conduct a referendum<br />

to determine whether a union's authority to enter into a<br />

union-shop contract should be rescinded.
