Union-Shop Agreement<br />

An agreement between an employer and a labor organization which<br />

requires membership in the union as a condition of employment on or<br />

after the 30th day following (1) the beginning of such employment or<br />

(2) the effective date of the agreement, whichever is the later.<br />

Unit, Appropriate Bargaining<br />

A grouping of employees in a plant, firm, or industry recognized by the<br />

employer, agreed upon by the parties to a case, or designated by the<br />

<strong>Board</strong> or its regional director, as appropriate for the purposes of<br />

collective bargaining.<br />

Valid Vote<br />

A secret ballot on which the choice of the voter is clearly shown.<br />

Withdrawn Cases<br />

Cases are closed as "withdrawn" when the charging party or petitioner,<br />

for whatever reasons, requests withdrawal of the charge or the petition<br />

and such request is approved.
