The Elements<br />

Volcanoes. A dormant volcano is a volcano that has been quiet for hundreds of<br />

years. However there is always a danger that a DV may suddenly erupt. A volcano may<br />

be extinct if it stopped erupting. An erupting volcano is a dramatic sight. It spews hot<br />

molten rock/magma/. Volcanoes often occur in mountain ranges <strong>on</strong> land but they can<br />

also form <strong>on</strong> ocean floors, rising above the sea level. There are many volcanoes<br />

surrounding the Pacific ocean that is known as the ring of fire. Some islands are the top<br />
