َََُّ130 With Love to Muhammad sa the Khātam-un-NabiyyīnWhat is a Ru’ya (Dream/Vision)?رؤ ا Another thing that should be understood is: What is a[ru’yā]? Is it not possible to receive orders and commandmentsfrom God through a ru’yā? Regarding a vision of the HolyProphet sa , Allāh, the Exalted, says:ۤ اَرَيْنٰكَ‏ اِلاَّ‏ فِتْنَةً‏ لّ‏ ‏ِلنَّاسِ‏وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الرُّءْايَ‏ الَّتىِ‏ ْ… And We made not the vision which We showedthee but as a trial for men… 125It is obvious that since this verse is in Sūrah Al-Isrā’, the wordru’yā here refers to the Isrā’ of the Holy Prophet sa . Even HazratIbn Abbās ra confirms this when he says:aموaہa aaاالله َ aأرِ‏ ‏ْنً‏ ‏َاa‏َ‏ aرؤaبِہaا aرول aااللهَ ْ َ َ ۃ أa ْ رِيَ‏It was an actual eye-witness which was shown toAllāh’s Apostle sa during the night he was taken on ajourney. 126Everybody knows that in this ru’yā, Allāh, the Exalted, clearlyshowed signs to the Holy Prophet sa . The angel Gabriel as waswith him but only up to a point beyond which the HolyProphet sa advanced on his own.
