ٰٰContinuation of Prophethood according to Ahādīth 305االلهaہaوaمaدہaaبرہaالaااaوaااللهaاہaبaابنaبHazrat ‘Alī ra narrates that when the son of theHoly Prophet sa , Ibrāhīm, died, he sent amessage to his mother, Maria, to prepare for thefuneral. Hence, she bathed Ibrāhīm andwrapped him in the shroud. Thereafter, theHoly Prophet sa brought the body out with hiscompanions, buried him in the cemetery, andplaced his hand on the grave and said, “By God,he is a prophet, the son of a prophet.” 300Since Hazrat ‘Alī ra was a member of the household,his narration is clearer and has details of the actualevent.This event took place about 4 years after therevelation of the verse of Khātam-an-Nabiyyīn… Whatdo the scholars conclude from this? 306 With Love to Muhammad sa the Khātam-un-NabiyyīnIf Ibrāhīm had lived and become a prophet[and] if ‘Umar had also become a prophet, thenboth would have been from the followers of theHoly Prophet sa , just like ‘Īsā, Khidr, and Ilyās(peace be on them). Hence, this is not againstthe saying of Allāh, the Exalted, “Khātam-an-Nabiyyīn,” because it means that there will be nosuch prophet after him who ends his religionand is not from his ummah 301 . 302It should now be clear that Farhan Khan’s excuse is meaninglessand only born out of his bias. He should bear in mind thatselective obedience to some ahādīth while disregard for othersleads to disobedience of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa !Questions for Farhan Khan:1. Does he disregard the conclusions drawn from all the ifthenstatements of the Holy Qur’ān?2. Why does he highlight certain ahādīth as a basis of hisfaith while totally ignoring ahādīth like the ones aboutIbrāhīm, the son of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa ?3. If the Holy Prophet sa really believed in the end ofprophethood of every kind, why did he not clearly say,“Ibrāhīm died so that he does not become a prophet,”instead of saying something that indicates the continuityof prophethood?4.
