174 With Love to Muhammad sa the Khātam-un-NabiyyīnIn short, the term Khātamun Nabiyyīn is the DivineSeal which has been set upon the prophethood ofMuhammad sa . It is now impossible for this seal everto be broken. What is possible, however, is that theHoly Prophet sa may appear in the world in the formof a burūz, not once, but even a thousand times, andmay, by way of burūz, proclaim his prophethoodwith all its splendour and perfection. The advent ofsuch a burūz was ordained by God Almighty, as Hesays:179وَّاٰخَرِيْنَ‏ مِنهْ‏ ‏ُمْ‏ لَمَّا يَلْحَقُوْا بهِ‏ ‏ِمْ‏ ۚProphets are never jealous of their burūz for hereflects their own image and character, but they arejealous of others. Just consider how Prophet Moses aswept and cried on the night of Mi‘rāj and expressedhis envy that the Holy Prophet sa had left him farbehind. Just imagine how hurt the Holy Prophet sawould be if God were to say that there would be noprophet after him, and yet He were to send Jesus as incontravention of His own word! Thus, prophethoodby way of burūz neither detracts from Khatm-e-Nubuwwat, nor breaks the Seal; but the advent of anyindependent prophet would hit at the very core ofIslām. And it would be extremely derogatory to theHoly Prophet sa to imagine that the monumental taskof vanquishing the Dajjāl should be performed by179And among others from among them who have not yet joined them.—Al-Jumu‘ah, 62:4 [Publishers]
