246 <strong>With</strong> <strong>Love</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Muhammad</strong> sa the Khātam-un-Nabiyyīnsupported by the Holy Qur’ān. Instead, Allāh, the Exalted, hasused the word qatala ‏(‏تل)‏ for the martyrs. For example, He says:وَلاَ‏ تحَ‏ ‏ْسَ‏ بنَ‏ َّ اذلَّ‏ ‏ِيْنَ‏ قُتِلُوْا فىِ‏ ْ سَ‏ بِيْلِ‏ اهللّ‏ ٰ ِ اَمْوَااتً‏ِ رَبهّ‏ ‏ِمْ‏ يُرْ‏ زَ‏ قُوْ‏ نَۙ‏ؕ بَلْ‏ اَحْيَآءٌ‏ عِنْدَ‏Think not of those, who have been slain in the causeof Allāh, as dead. Nay, they are living, in thepresence of their Lord, and are granted gifts fromHim. 237وَلاَ‏ تَقُوْلُوْا لِمَنْ‏ يُّقْتَلُ‏ فىِ‏ ْ سَ‏ بِيْلِ‏ اهللّ‏ ٰ ِ اَمْوٰتٌؕ‏ بَلْ‏ اَحْيَآءٌ‏ وَّلٰكِنْ‏ لاَّ‏تَشْ‏ عُرُ‏ وْ‏ نَ‏ ۝And say not of those who are killed in the cause ofAllāh that they are dead; nay, they are living; onlyyou perceive not. 238In the entire Qur’ān, the word shahīd is not used by Allāh, theExalted, <strong>to</strong> refer <strong>to</strong> martyrs. He has always used the word qatala.If someone were <strong>to</strong> ask why the word shahīd is translated asmartyr in translations of the Qur’ān, the answer is that an impliedmeaning of this word is martyr but it is not the intendedmeaning based on the language of the Holy Qur’ān.It is indeed hard for us <strong>to</strong> understand why the title ofFarhan Khan’s book boasts, “<strong>With</strong> <strong>Love</strong> <strong>to</strong> the Ahmadis of theWorld,” yet it is filled with extraordinary bias and prejudicedanalyses of Ahmadiyya Muslim beliefs. It is full of statementswhich have nothing <strong>to</strong> do with Islām, the Holy Qur’ān, and the۝237Sūrah Āle‘Imrān, 3:170238Sūrah Al-Baqarah, 2:155
