ُُُِِِ8 <strong>With</strong> <strong>Love</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Muhammad</strong> sa the Khātam-un-Nabiyyīn<strong>Muhammad</strong> sa is the last prophet in absolute terms. The fact ofthe matter is that Farhan Khan does this <strong>to</strong> give the impressionthat the only possible meaning of khātam is the last.This chapter will challenge this impression that FarhanKhan tries <strong>to</strong> give by quoting three universally acknowledgeddictionaries: Mufridāt Imām Rāghib, Lisān-ul-‘Arab, and Lane’sLexicon. We present below a complete quotation from Mufridātwhich thoroughly discusses the meanings of the word khātam.Mufridāt Imām Rāghiba :َ ات َ اب .َ َّ و ُ زaبذکaتاراختم aوابع aال aوجنِ‏ a‏َمِ‏ aواوب‏ْ‏ ُ ت ‏،‏aووaتاثرaشِ‏ aاخ‏َعْ در aخت‏ْ‏ تُ‏الاثرa واثا‏:‏ْ تِ‎ثاقaaاحالaنaاش،‏aوتَج ةaaالاaن aا‏ْعaہ aاِ‏ ْ ٍ تبارا aبا aحلُ‏باختْمaaاتبِ‏ aوالابوابِ‏ن اa ِ aواع ،“The words al-Khatm and at-Tab‘ are used in twoways:1. The infinitive meaning of ‘I sealed’ or ‘Istamped,’ and this refers <strong>to</strong> the impressing ofsomething on something ‏[تاثر]‏ like the stampring. ‏[‏ش]‏ of a seal or a2.
