Often, he would employ termsaccording to his custom understanding or its linguisticdefinition, demanding an active, contemplative reader.” 153 Then,without quoting from the actual writings of Hazrat Ibn ‘Arabī rhor Hazrat ‘Abd-ul-Wahhāb rh , Farhan Khan says that Imam‘Abd-ul-Wahhāb rh believed that Hazrat Ibn ‘Arabī rh spoke oftwo kinds of wahī (revelation):1. Wahī Tashrī‘ī – Revelation to the Prophets2. Wahī Ilhām – Revelation to non-ProphetsAbout these two groups, Farhan Khan declares, “Both groupsreceived wahī from Allāh, and thus Ibn ‘Arabī termed bothgroups as nabīs according to the linguistic meaning of nabī,153Khan, With Love, Page 37155

Nubuwwah at-Tashrī‘ī (Law bearing prophethood)2. Nubuwwah al-‘Āmah (prophethood for the common man)Before proceeding further, let us analyze the contradictionFarhan Khan has created for himself. If he considers Hazrat Ibn‘Arabī rh as an authority on this issue, then in accordance with hispractice, he should have disagreed with him. He should haveperhaps written a book against Hazrat Ibn ‘Arabī rh andcriticized him for applying the term Nabī to people after theHoly Prophet Muhammad sa . He should have written that sincethe Holy Prophet Muhammad sa has written, “Lā Nabīyya Ba‘adī”(There is no prophet after me), it was not only inappropriate,but kufr (disbelief) for Hazrat Ibn ‘Arabi rh to apply this term toanyone in any sense of the term whatsoever! Regardless of themeanings and applications of the term Nabī used by Hazrat Ibn‘Arabī rh , the absoluteness of Farhan Khan’s stance on the finalityof prophethood is severely damaged when he accepts that theterm Nabī can be applied to others after the Holy ProphetMuhammad sa in another form. In his chapter, he has made anannouncement to the world that he is willing to accept that oneform of nubuwwah (prophethood) has continued after the HolyProphet Muhammad sa and in one sense, the Holy ProphetMuhammad sa is not the last prophet or Nabī!
