Continuation of Prophethood according to the Holy Qur’ān 253those who fear Him. A reason why the word ma‘a cannotpossibly mean “among” in the above verse is the fact that ma‘ais being used in respect of two different species: Allāh and Hiscreation. It is obvious that the creation cannot be among Allāhand can only be with Allāh. As a result, the meaning “with” isapplied to the word ma‘a in this specific context. Similarly, allother verses where Allāh is being spoken of in respect of Hiscreation, the meaning “among” cannot be applied.The other thing that should be remembered is that someverses of the Holy Qur’ān explain other verses. If there is anyambiguity left regarding the meaning of a certain verse, thingscan become clear by pondering over other related verses of theHoly Qur’ān. Allāh, the Exalted, Himself explains the matterunder discussion in many verses of the Holy Qur’ān. Considerthe way the following two verses explain each other:وَاذلَّ‏ ‏ِيْنَ‏ اٰمَنُوْا ابِ‏ هللّ‏ِ رَبهّ‏ ‏ِمْؕ‏ لَهُمْ‏ اَجْرُ‏ همُ‏ ْ وَنُوْرُ‏ همُ‏ ِْٕ كَ‏ همُ‏ ُ الصِّ‏ دِّيْقُوْ‏ نَۖ‏ وَالشُّ‏ هَدَآءُ‏ عِنْ‏ ‏َدۤ اُولٰ‏ ٓ ىٰ ِ وَرُ‏ سُ‏ هلِ‏ ٖAnd those who believe in Allāh and His messengersand they are the truthful and the witnesses in theSight of their Lord, they will have their reward andtheir light. 247ِٕ ٰ اهللّ‏ َ وَالرَّسُ‏ وْلَ‏ فَاُولٰ‏ ٓ ى كَ‏ مَعَ‏ اذلَّ‏ ‏ِيْنَ‏ اَنْعَمَ‏ ٰ اهللّ‏ ُ عَلَيهْ‏ ‏ِمْ‏ مّ‏ ‏ِنَ‏وَمَنْ‏ يُّطِ‏ عِ‏النَّبِينّ‏ َ وَالصِّ‏ دِّيْقِينْ‏ َ وَالشُّ‏ هَدَآءِ‏ وَالصّ‏ ۚ وَحَسُ‏ نَ‏ اُولٰ‏ ٓ ى كَ‏ رَفِيْقًا‎۝ؕ‎ِٰٕٖ لِحِينْ‏ َAnd whoso obeys Allāh and this Messenger of Hisshall be among those on whom Allāh has bestowedHis blessings, namely, the prophets, the truthful, the247Sūrah Al-Hadīd, 57:20
