HMIThe scope of the work of the HMI Working Group was defined. The HMI WG wasmandated to study methods to evaluate the cognitive, visual and manual workloadassociated with the operation of in-vehicle information and communication systems -including nomadic devices - and recommend good practices. The working group’s remitof study excludes two-wheelers.The WG’s next steps were identified, namely: to formulate detailed terms of reference, toask Member States for the missing responses to the Statement of Principles(Commission), to analyse the Member States responses (Commission) and to analyse theactivities of ISO as well as activities in the U.S. and Japan in order to harmonizerecommendations.3.3.3 Other itemsThe Commission reported that it would adopt a Communication on “Information andCommunications technologies for Intelligent Vehicles” during the first half of 2003,aimed at accelerating the development, deployment and use of new technologies forimproving road safety.Page 122 of 490
