3.9 Fourth <strong>eSafety</strong> Forum PlenaryMeeting, Hanover, 2 June 20053.9.1 IntroductionThe Fourth Plenary Meeting was one of the largest so far with over 120 membersattending. There was a strong participation from the Member States and the insuranceindustry was also present for the first time.The goal of the meeting was to discuss issues related to deployment of <strong>eSafety</strong> systemsand an number of reports including the Working Group report on ‘Towards pan-European Deployment of <strong>eSafety</strong>’. The focus was on how to accelerate the deploymentof <strong>eSafety</strong>.3.9.2 General Conclusions<strong>eSafety</strong> DeploymentIn order to achieve large-scale deployment of <strong>eSafety</strong> systems, it was necessary toconceive more concrete plans.ReportsSeveral reports by the different Working Groups and stakeholders were proposed at thetime of the meeting:1. Reports by the User Outreach and Implementation Road Maps WGs were welcomedand the concept of a joint platform obtained support from other stakeholders.2. The Implementation Road Maps WG submitted an interim report. It also drafted itsapproach on assessing the merits of various <strong>eSafety</strong> systems, which it would complete bythe end of the year.3. Reports from the Heavy Duty Vehicles and Digital Maps Working Groups were alsowelcomed.4. The Commission asked to distribute its Draft Working Paper on incentives to allmembers to enable further discussions on this topic.Page 173 of 490
