Development of a detailed workplanFebruary 2004 - January 2005:Activities contingent on the progress madeIssues of nomadic devices will be tackledHMI issues related to some ADAS may be addressed if timescale and WG-HMIresources sufficientPropose amendments and extensions of the ESoP2.4 International Co-operation WGChairMartin Rowell, NavTeqObjectivesThe main objective of this Working Group is to co-ordinate the international aspects ofthe <strong>eSafety</strong> Forum and its Working Groups.To this effect, the International Co-operation Working Group will support the dialogueat the international level between all road safety stakeholders and identify topics/issueswhere this co-operation is needed or should be strengthened. The International CooperationWorking Group will make the necessary recommendations to accelerate theexchange of information on priority topics and suggest the way forward. Theinternational co-operation is expected to cover especially Accidentology, aspects ofHuman-Machine Interaction, certification and testing methodology and procedures,harmonisation and standardisation requirements, legal issues and socio-economic benefitanalysis and benchmarking/best practise.DescriptionInternational collaboration is seen as an important and essential part of the <strong>eSafety</strong>initiative and the <strong>eSafety</strong> Forum. It is needed to strengthen the synergies and to avoidduplication with the work which is taking place in other regions, in particular the regionsplaying a leading role in automotive technology i.e. North America and Japan.The first meeting of the <strong>eSafety</strong> Forum International Co-operation Working Group tookplace on 17 July 2003 in Paris, under the chairmanship of David Ward (FIA Foundation).Representatives from EU, USA, Japan and Canada were present in this meeting. Themain conclusions of this meeting were the following:1.) There is a need for global co-ordination of the activities in the area of <strong>eSafety</strong> Theglobal co-ordination of <strong>eSafety</strong>, or Global <strong>eSafety</strong> could be best organised under theumbrella of the regional –operating ITS organisations of the three continents. This coordinationshould be based on the MoUs which exist between the three organisations,and could use the ITS World Congresses as a venue to hold their typically twice-annualmeetings.Page 138 of 490
