Test procedureThe vehicle must be accelerated to a speed of 30 mile/h. The test area will beapproached in a straight line and all vehicle inputs (steering, throttle, speed) shouldbe maintained at a constant level for at least one second. The accelerator must then be released, the vehicle put into neutral gear and thebrake pedal activated in as short a time as possible. The brake pedal must be depressed as hard and as fast as possible such that ABSactivation of locked wheel braking is achieved within 0.5 seconds of first touchingthe brake pedal.A high pedal force must be maintained until the vehicle comes to rest such thatABS is active or wheels are locked throughout the test. (Note that ABS systemswill allow some wheel lock at low speeds of approximately 10 mile/h or less). The procedure should be repeated five times.Evaluation of resultsThe system in question must remain rigidly secure at all times. Any evidence ofmovement should be noted in a test report.Test Procedure 2: Cornering Test (DRAFT)Test vehicleThe IVIS must be fitted to the vehicle as it would be in normal service. It ispreferable if the vehicle is fitted with an electronic stability program (ESP) to avoidexcess tyre wear. The test vehicle should be either the actual vehicle the system will be fitted to orhave comparable interior structure in the area the candidate system is mounted.Test conditionsThe test should be carried out on a flat smooth asphalt area in good conditionaway from the public road and other personnel or vehicles. There must besufficient flat smooth asphalt surrounding the test area that no collision wouldoccur even if the test caused the vehicle to lose control and spin. The test must be carried out in dry conditions in order to maximise the level oflateral acceleration achieved.A skilled and experienced test driver should be used and adequate safetyprecautions must be taken at all timesTest procedureA course must be marked out using small cones to the specification contained inISO 3888 (test track for a lane change manoeuvre). The vehicle should approach the test course at a constant speed. The throttleshould be released immediately on entry into the lane and steering should beapplied in order to guide the car through the course without colliding with any ofthe cones.Page 331 of 490
