ANNEX G Installation Recommendation and Test Procedure for After-marketIn-Vehicle Information SystemsRecommendation 1:Aftermarket IVIS should not endanger the driver or passenger on impact.a) The IVIS should not contain any dangerous roughness, sharp or protruding edges ordangerous projections likely to increase the risk of serious injury to the occupantsb) The IVIS should terminate in round edgesc) The IVIS should detach, break up, be distorted or retract under force withoutproducing any dangerous features or projectionsd) The IVIS should be energy dissipatingElaboration:Aftermarket IVIS in this context is any in-vehicle information or communicationsystem fitted within the vehicle by persons other than the manufacturer, after thevehicle has received Type Approval.Round edges are defined as having a radii of curvature not less than 3.2 mm (asprescribed in annex 4 of Regulation 21).Force is defined as the effect of a forward-acting horizontal longitudinal force of37.8 daN exerted by a cylinder of 110mm diameter with its axis vertical. The forcemust be directed at the strongest part of the system (as prescribed in annex 4 ofRegulation 21).Energy dissipating means that the deceleration of the head form shall not exceed80 g continuously for more than 3 milliseconds (as prescribed in annex 4 ofRegulation 21).Dangerous projection is defined as 9.5mm or greater (as prescribed in annex 4 ofRegulation 21).Relevant Regulation:Regulation 21: Agreement concerning the adoption of uniform conditions of approvaland reciprocal recognition of approval for motor vehicle equipment and parts (Section5.1).Rationale:To ensure that the vehicle occupants are not physically endangered by the presenceof any components of the system on impactRecommendation 2:Aftermarket IVIS should be securely fitted/mounted so that no components of the system detacheither partially or fully from their fitting when the vehicle is in motion during the whole life of theproductPage 329 of 490
