Future actions:The Working Group on R&D has defined the following research need for this area:Greater emphasis and funding of accident causation R&D including the analysis ofpresent data and demographic aspects. The Working Group on Accident Causation has used the above to outline specific tasksrelated to accident causation:The Implementation Road Maps working group recommends that funding be put inplace to have the task carried out urgently so that final results can be expected within 2years. This may cost around €1.5 million. This work is an essential prerequisite measurefor other eSafety work or initiatives outside eSafety that are already underway. The work to carry out the interrogation should now be handed on to the successfulproject consortium. There is a need to maintain some continuity between the work that has been done by theworking group and that which will be carried out by the project group. In the future it would also be useful to maintain a bridge between the e-Safety initiativeand other activities in accident analysis. The longer term recommendation of the e-Safety Forum to define a common format andstructure for future accident data is being led by SafetyNet and accident causationanalysis working group members are in touch with this work and would wish to remainso. In view of the above, the e-Safety accident causation analysis group recommends that itdisseminates the work and reports produced so far and then invoke a temporarymoratorium until results from these other initiatives begin to appear or are available fordiscussion. The work of the group could then recommence to maintain contact andcontinuity. The IST 4th call provided an opportunity to address accident causation needsand new activities might be launched within this area in the beginning of 2006.Contacts:Mr Michael Hollingsworth, ACEA, mh@acea.bePage 64 of 490
