Thisfacility has six on-line stations with 560 park and ride spaces, and sixremote sites with a <strong>to</strong>tal of 1,000 parking spaces.The original patronage projections for the West Bus way estimatedabout 50,000 daily passengers on a longer and more elaborate facility.Major elements in the overall program, including a full bus waytreatment in<strong>to</strong> down<strong>to</strong>wn Pittsburg, were deferred due <strong>to</strong> costescalation. The West Bus way has the distinction of being one of themost expensive bus ways ever built in the U.S. of $65 million per mile,mainly due <strong>to</strong> the cost of grade-separated construction in the very hillyareas of Western Pennsylvania and <strong>to</strong>tal rehabilitation of an oldrailroad tunnel.75
