Admission is based in part upon the availability of program slots. Slots open as candidatescomplete and leave the program or new faculty are added. Qualified applicants are processed ona first come, first served basis from July through February. In the event that there are more lateapplicants than available slots after February and before the Summer I Interviews in April theElementary <strong>Education</strong> Instructional Team will evaluate these applicants’ application materialusing a standard rubric and award points based on grade point average, the entrance interviewand essay, and confidential references. Detractors from a successful application include but arenot limited to patterns of course withdrawals, patterns of course incompletes, and moralturpitude. Late applicants will be admitted beginning with the highest rankings until all availableslots are filled. Late applicants who cannot be admitted will be placed on a waiting list in casean opening should occur. If an opening does not occur in the late applicants’ cohort, thequalified applicants will be added to the list of those admitted for the following cohort.Applicants will be admitted for enrollment in the <strong>PACE</strong> Elementary Teacher <strong>Education</strong> Programwith a specific starting date and timeline. Applicants have four years to complete the program.Excluding summer sessions, <strong>PACE</strong> candidates are required to enroll in at least one class eachsemester until they have completed the program unless special circumstances arise in which casethe <strong>PACE</strong> advisor will so note the change from normal practices. Failure to successfullyprogress through the program may be cause for the candidate to be dropped from the program.Plan of StudyWhen candidates have completed their applications for admission to the <strong>PACE</strong> ElementaryTeacher <strong>Education</strong> Program, They should complete their Plan of Study. Information related tothe plan of study is included in the appendices of this book. This should be completed with thehelp of their supervisor or coordinator.Candidate should use their best judgment in entering information about when they plan tocomplete the various program requirements and phases of their studies. In the comment sectionsfor each phase, they should note if they plan to ask permission to challenge specific courses andwhere they plan to complete their internships. It is the candidate’s responsibility to maintain acurrent and accurate Plan of Study and to notify the <strong>PACE</strong> coordinator when changes are madeto their plans. It is the candidate’s responsibility to keep the <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Division</strong> and <strong>PACE</strong>coordinator informed of any changes in surname, address, employment status, telephonenumber(s) and <strong>LCSC</strong> E-Mail address.Undertaking <strong>PACE</strong> Course Work Prior to Receiving Provisional or FullAdmissionIndividuals may undertake Phase I <strong>PACE</strong> coursework at their own discretion and with theapproval of the <strong>PACE</strong> Coordinator before they have received provisional or full admission to the<strong>PACE</strong> Elementary Teacher <strong>Education</strong> Program. This may be appropriate in cases where theindividual is completing required courses in Phase I courses in anticipation of applying foradmission to the program and attending the required summer orientation and workshop.10
