Section 5 – OTHER ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH INTERNSHIPSProfessional SeminarsAll interns are required to participate in the professional seminars. Activities include problemsencountered in the intern role, review of classroom management strategies, discussion of currentissues in education, introduction to action research and development of candidate worksamples/interdisciplinary units. The seminar also provides a forum for the discussion ofalternative teaching strategies (Henry & Beasley, 1980). Interns will complete seminars usingInternet based conferencing techniques (Megameeting) .Methods Course, Wong and Wong Checklist,Candidate Work Sample Project and ICLAMost candidates will undertake Internship I together in ED 426. This course includes specificmethods course assignments to be completed during the internship. The Wong and Wongchecklist assignment is completed during Internship II when the intern is working closely with anOSTE. The candidate should also complete a Diversity Project during Internship I, and if notalready completed, pass the ICLA.The PortfolioThe portfolio can be constructed on a private <strong>Education</strong> <strong>Division</strong> web server athttp://teachercandidate.lcsc.edu if you decide to do an electronic portfolio. In order to use theserver, the candidate must contact Dick Shedd by E-mail dshedd@lcsc.edu to obtain a password.Candidates are required to use their lcmail.lcsc.edu E-Mail account.The portfolio is a record of rubric-based performance assessments that requires interns todemonstrate that they have the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be an effectiveclassroom teacher. Development of the portfolio is a two-semester endeavor. Ideally, one-halfof your portfolio will be completed by the end of Internship I. In this portfolio the interns collectand display evidence (artifacts) that they are able to meet the set of seven principles andstandards required for completion of the <strong>Lewis</strong>-<strong>Clark</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> Teacher <strong>Education</strong> Program.The seven principles are titled: Dedicated Professional Knowledgeable Professional Culturally Responsive Educator Content Specialist <strong>Education</strong>al Designer <strong>Education</strong>al Facilitator <strong>Education</strong>al Evaluator Reflective Professional34
