The most widelytouted alternative to simple alkanethiols is an aromatic molecule so that theeffect of k-orbitals on electron transport can be investigated [2]. Incorporatingdifferent kinds of capping ligands into the nanocrystal synthesis is notalways easy, however. The different binding strengths of the ligands can havea noticeable effect on the final nanocrystal size, size distribution, and solubilitycharacteristics. The most common way of circumventing this problemis through a ligand-exchange reaction with previously synthesized alkane-Copyright 2004 by Marcel Dekker, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
