Panorama <strong>of</strong> telework applicationsThe dynamic IT development creates new work conditions, in which many people permanently usecomputers, telephones, telefax machines. It applies chiefly to all works connected with informationgathering, storing, analysing, processing and transmitting. Telework cannot be implemented inevery type <strong>of</strong> work. The use <strong>of</strong> this form <strong>of</strong> work is suitable in the first place for the followingfields:• sector <strong>of</strong> information and communication technology,• banking,• accountancy,• textual and graphic data processing,• programming,• designing,• information services e.g. tourist information,• scientific works [7].In telework instead <strong>of</strong> the evaluation based on the employee’s presence in his/her workplace, he /she is evaluated on the basis <strong>of</strong> work performance [6]. The teleworker declares his/ her availabilityand readiness to perform the orders <strong>of</strong> his/ her superior.5. The Information Society in PolandCurrently information is becoming the essential strategic resource <strong>of</strong> an organisation (besidesraw materials, capital, labour), with the available information technologies being the tools <strong>of</strong>this strategy. The basis <strong>of</strong> the development <strong>of</strong> the information society is the economy basedon knowledge and this body <strong>of</strong> knowledge i.e. information and methods <strong>of</strong> its application arebecoming the principal economic asset, cumulated both in data bases and in the social intellectualpotential.The transformation <strong>of</strong> the industrial society <strong>of</strong> the 20th century into the information society <strong>of</strong>the 21st century involves a number <strong>of</strong> processes <strong>of</strong> the economic, social, cultural, political,legal, technical and ecological nature [8]. The use <strong>of</strong> IT may contribute to the improvement <strong>of</strong>the quality <strong>of</strong> life in the society and the effectively support the economy. The threats posedby the use <strong>of</strong> IT cannot, however, be overlooked. First <strong>of</strong> all, the access to information mayendanger the citizens’ privacy and cause the appearance <strong>of</strong> the new type <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fences and crimes,e.g. unauthorised processing <strong>of</strong> personal data, used later for marketing purposes. The use <strong>of</strong> ITenables the communication and collaboration between the staff members, customers, supplierswhen the direct contact is impossible. Such situations occur when the distance, health, type <strong>of</strong>work or family circumstances do not allow direct contacts. Unfortunately, the reduction <strong>of</strong> directcontacts may contribute to the development <strong>of</strong> social isolation.
