SANE future research tasksThe SANE space environment model workspace model will provide the input for the study <strong>of</strong>interaction in physical space and an integrative method will be developed using the ‘CommonGround Approach’ for analysing interactions in the three categories <strong>of</strong> space specified in themodel. Mediated communication in technology-enabled spaces will also be investigated and forthis purpose this approach will be extended by developing methods suitable for investigations <strong>of</strong>interactions in virtual and physical spaces. Combining the workspace model with the ‘CommonGround Approach’ will make it possible to develop experimental methods for evaluating thecongruence <strong>of</strong> the physical and virtual spaces in their role <strong>of</strong> supporting interactions. Theseactivities will result in the development <strong>of</strong> a unified workplace model for the design <strong>of</strong> sustainableworkplaces in a synthesis <strong>of</strong> physical and virtual spaces with the workplace technologies.The project will specify and design a limited number <strong>of</strong> ICT applications, services andinfrastructures for distributed mobile work. In addition the project will specify communicationinterface requirements for the unified framework for workplace design. The unified framework forthe design <strong>of</strong> sustainable workplaces will be then be evaluated through validation exercises in fivespecific user contexts within the consortium membership.Participation in the SANE project is welcomed.
