Ch. 15 – Using Other Windows Imaging Applications in Basic ModeIntroductionThe SPOT software is TWAIN compliant. The Basic TWAIN interface, as an alternative to the stand-aloneSPOT software, allows Windows users to use other imaging programs (e.g., Photoshop or Image Pro) toview, and edit images that were captured using the SPOT camera and software. For example, using theBasic TWAIN interface and the SPOT camera, you can capture an image from within Photoshop and thentransfer the image into Photoshop to be edited and saved. As with the stand-alone version of the SPOTsoftware, the TWAIN interface can be used in both Basic and Advanced modes. The following chapterdescribes only the Basic TWAIN Interface.Establishing the TWAIN InterfaceTo use the SPOT camera and software via a TWAIN compliant imaging application (e.g., Photoshop,Image-Pro, etc…), you must first set the SPOT software as the default TWAIN source.Follow these steps:1. Open the TWAIN compliant application e.g., Photoshop, Image-Pro, etc…2. Specify the source of the program that you want to interface with (i.e., the SPOT software). Theprocedure for this step will vary according to the software you are using, but you should see a list ofTWAIN devices. In many cases, the application asks you to specify a scanning device.3. Choose SPOT Insight camera (Basic Mode). This establishes the SPOT software as the defaultTWAIN source.4. Open the TWAIN interface. Again, thisstep varies according to the software youare using. The SPOT Camera windowappears within the application, as shownat right.Refer to the next sections for descriptions ofthe available options on the TWAINinterface.276 User Guide to the SPOT Insight Camera

For example, usingthe Basic TWAIN interface, a typical image capture session might involve the following steps, asillustrated below:Preview your specimenUse the live image as a pointof reference to focus andposition the image and to scanfor areas of interest.A Live Image previewof your specimendisplays here whenyou first open theBasic TWAIN interface.Create a ProfileProfiles allow you to create,modify, and reuse specificexposures settings that aretailored to your image captureneeds. To create a newprofile, right click on theProfile box.Right-clicking on the Profile boxgives you options to create andmodify Profiles. When you select"Add," you are prompted to name thenew Profile.
