Protective equipmentPersonal protective equipment must comply with the requirements of <strong>Europe</strong>an Directive89/686/EEC.Personal protective equipment must have the CE mark and be in a good condition.Personal protective equipment, basic equipment: Safety helmet (if necessary observe the obligation to mark the helmet). Goggles Ear protectors (if necessary) > 85 db Bright colours, reflective strips Working gloves (if necessary) Safety shoes S3, up to the ankle High visibility jacket Protective jacket One or two part overalls for the subcontractors' tradesmen. Protective clothing for weldersThe PSA catalogue for HPE staff is dealt with in greater detail in Appendix 3.The need to wear other personal protective equipment for specific work (for example, noise protection,skin protection, breathing protection) arises from the relevant subcontractor's risk assessment.Suitable full protection face masks must be worn for grinding and cutting work.The relevant subcontractor will provide the necessary personal protective equipment for his employeesand will check that the equipment is used and maintained correctly.In special cases HPE may provide the necessary personal protective equipment. Any costs incurredfor this will be borne by the relevant subcontractor.People working in the vicinity of moving machines will wear work clothes that cannot get caught inthe moving parts of the machine. Clothing splattered with oil, paint, thinners, solvents etc. should nolonger be worn. It must be removed from the skin immediately and changed.3.4.6.2. PSA to prevent falling (PPEaf)As a general rule the use of personal protective equipment to prevent falling is only permitted as anexception and only for a short time. Suitable technical procedures take precedence. The requiredattachment points must be specified by the supervisor. Staff must be suitable for and trained in theuse of personal protective equipment against falling.
