Fire fighting equipmentWork places must be equipped with fire extinguishers in accordance with the specifications in BGregulation 133.Fire extinguishers must be procured, operated and checked in accordance with the specifications ofthis BG regulation and also the generally recognised rules of engineering. Deviations are permittedif the same level of safety is guaranteed another way.The technical solutions in this BG regulation do not exclude other, at least just as safe solutions,which could have been set out too in the technical rules of other member states of the <strong>Europe</strong>anUnion or other states contracted to the Agreement on the <strong>Europe</strong>an Economic Area.Test reports from test centres that are registered in other member states of the <strong>Europe</strong>an Union orin other states contracted to the Agreement on the <strong>Europe</strong>an Economic Area are taken into considerationin the same way as German test certificates if the tests, test procedures and constructionrequirements on which the test certificates of these centres are based are equivalent to those of theGerman centre. Similar centres are particularly those that meet the requirements laid down in theseries of standards EN 45000.3.4.20.5. Notification chainEach fire and each explosion must be reported immediately to the client's notification point for thesite (e.g. the local fire brigade) giving exact details of the location. Until the fire brigade arrives thelocally available fire fighting equipment is to be used as best you can and the traffic routes keptclear.The emergency drill must be posted up.3.4.21. Hazardous substances3.4.21.1. Substances that are dangerous to healthThe construction industry uses a wide range of materials, such as cement, paints, cleaning materialsand adhesives. Some of these substances may have harmful effects on health and the environment.However, if they are handled carefully, mindful of possible risks, the risk of damage canbe kept to a minimum. Special training must be given to all people who use such substances andthe work procedure must be checked particularly carefully.All subcontractors are required to check in advance whether substances that are delivered to thesite are potentially damaging to health or the environment. Hazardous substances and the amountof them must be listed mentioning the possible risks (in terms of storing, using, spilling, releasing,waste products etc.). The relevant safety data sheets must be enclosed. The list must be given tothe main client in advance.Only hazardous substances that are recorded in the REACH regulations (EC) no. 1907/2006)may be used.Any hazardous substance must be clearly marked with at least the following information. Name ofthe substance, danger symbol, description of the dangers and recommended safety measures,manufacturer or supplier.
