The client's or HPE's fire extinguishing equipment mustonly be used in an emergency.All fire extinguishers must be regularly checked and labelled in accordance with the requirements oflocal legislation. The location of the fire extinguishing equipment must be marked by notices.Employees must be instructed how to use fire extinguishers and other fire extinguishing equipmentby the relevant subcontractors. Emergency drills must be held regularly.A work permit is mandatory for all hot-work-activities.If necessary a fire watch will be specified in the work permit. For hot-work-activities where is a lowrisk of fire the person carrying out the work can be specified as the fire watch. Fire watches must bespecially trained. The fire watch will remain in the vicinity permanently. After the work involving hightemperature processes has been completed or after the fire has been extinguished he will remainat his post for the time specified in the work permit.The traffic routes, escape routes and emergency exits must be kept clear at all times.Only small amounts of slightly inflammable materials may be stored.Places where combustible gases or materials are used or stored must be labelled appropriately.Combustible materials or gases must be stored separately. If this is not possible a sufficient distancebetween the materials must be maintained.After a fire or another incident HPE may also carry out its own accident analysis. All of the subcontractor'sstaff involved must attend this analysis if the <strong>HSE</strong> managers on the site require it.3.4.20.1. Fire protection and fire fightingThe contractor is responsible for complying with all fire prevention-related laws and regulations andfor complying with the fire prevention regulations in force on the site.The local fire brigade must be called in for any precautionary fire prevention or precautionary hazardprevention matters with the necessary speed depending on the circumstances.3.4.20.2. Fire drillsFire drills should be held at least twice a year.3.4.20.3. Fire prevention measuresDraw up a fire prevention <strong>plan</strong> (with the fire extinguishing equipment locations).Cordon off danger areas, look out for ignition sources, if necessary appoint a fire watch.Always store combustible materials separately from gas bottles or pressure tanks.Store combustible and oxidising gases separately.Extinguishing agents: sand, water, fire blanket, fire extinguisher (portable).As far as possible only use fire extinguishers of one type and made by one manufacturer.Put fire extinguishers in a highly visible, easily accessible place. Have them inspected andserviced regularly.Attach instruction for use on fire extinguishing equipment.Train staff in how to handle fire extinguishers.
