Protest, Society <strong>and</strong> theState <strong>in</strong> N<strong>in</strong>eteenth Century Iran (I.B. Tauris 2005); Islam <strong>and</strong> Modernism:the Iranian Revolution of 1906 (I B Tauris, 1989).Lawrence G. Potter teaches at Columbia University <strong>and</strong> is Deputy Directorof Gulf/2000, a major research <strong>and</strong> documentation project on the <strong>Persia</strong>nGulf states. He received an M.A. from S.O.A.S. <strong>and</strong> a Ph.D. <strong>in</strong> History fromColumbia. He co-edited three books on the <strong>Persia</strong>n Gulf, the latest be<strong>in</strong>gIran, Iraq <strong>and</strong> the Legacies of <strong>War</strong> (2004), <strong>and</strong> is currently edit<strong>in</strong>g a bookon the history of the <strong>Persia</strong>n Gulf.Richard Schofield is Lecturer <strong>in</strong> Boundary Studies <strong>and</strong> Convenor of theMaster’s programme <strong>in</strong> Geopolitics, Territory <strong>and</strong> Security (formerly InternationalBoundary Studies) at K<strong>in</strong>g’s College, London. He has writtenextensively on territorial aspects of Iran, Arabia <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Persia</strong>n Gulf region<strong>and</strong> is currently writ<strong>in</strong>g a book (with James Denselow), New Iraq, OldNeighbours: Borders, Territoriality <strong>and</strong> Region Hurst & Co./ColumbiaUniversity Press 2007.Graham Williamson lives <strong>in</strong> Hornchurch, Essex, Engl<strong>and</strong>. He has been<strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> military history for many years <strong>and</strong> became fasc<strong>in</strong>ated withthe history of the early <strong>Qajar</strong> rulers. He has had articles published <strong>in</strong> theJournals of the International <strong>Qajar</strong> Studies Association, Cont<strong>in</strong>ental <strong>War</strong>Society <strong>and</strong> the Iran Society.
