Soil acidification Waterlogging Compaction Acidification due to acid rain was a challenge in Northern and Western Europe. The situation is now improving, though several decades will be needed for complete soil recovery. Waterlogging is mostly associated with irrigation in Central Asian countries. Most cultivated irrigated soils there are waterlogged. This phenomena in Central Asia is commonly associated with salinization. The use of heavy machinery and overgrazing are threatening in almost all the agricultural areas.
