FLUVISOLS (Fluvents, Fluv-Subroups) Fluvisols are soils developedin fluvial, lacustrine or marine deposits A noted characteristic is an irregular decrease in organic carbon. In fact, significant soil organic carbon is buried by depositional events. Typical horizonation is A-C 2 -C 3 -Ab (Figure A 33). Fluvisols are found in all climates except permafrost. Vegetation depends on climate and proximity to water. The relief is usually level. Most of the soils are of recent origin. Fluvisols occupy approximately 350 million ha of the land surface of the globe. Countries with more than 20 million ha are Russia, China and Indonesia.
