INDEX > 2.System Configulation > 2.3 Function System Diagram The ARPA process circuit receives the radar signal data, with the unwanted waves suppressed by the radar signal process circuit, and performs target tracking. The results of the tracking are sent to the main CPU in the radar process circuit. The AIS process circuit processes the AIS communication data input from an external device, manages the database of all the AIS targets received, and send the information on important targets to the main CPU. Based on this information, the main CPU displays the AIS targets and necessary information on the radar screen. The I/F circuit contains a built-in interface circuit for the external equipment, performs level conversion for the various signals, and connects to the radar process circuit. The terminal board circuit is an interface between the I/F circuit and external device. C. Basic Radar Operations When the preheating of the magnetron of the scanner unit is complete, the display unit goes on standby. Pressing the TX/STBY button on the operation unit places the system in transmission status. The main CPU issues a start transmission command to the scanner unit, the scanner unit starts transmitting, and the antenna starts to rotate. The radar signals sent by the scanner unit are input to the radar process circuit via the I/F circuit. Unwanted waves are suppressed and a radar image suited to the display screen is displayed. The switches and dials on the operation unit can be used to change the settings of the signal processing in the radar process circuit and the screen display, the results of which are immediately reflected in the radar image display. D. Inter Switch Function The inter switch NQE-3141 allows the user to freely switch the connections between multiple display units and the scanner unit, so that even if there is a problem with one display unit, the operation of the system as a whole is maintained. For example, without the inter switch function, if a problem occurred in the No.1 (S band) display unit, it would become impossible to use the S band radar, which would affect maritime safety in adverse weather conditions. With the inter switch function, however, it is possible to connect the functioning No. 1 scanner unit to the No. 2 display unit, and continue to use S band radar. The inter switch is easily operated from the radar screen. The main CPU of the radar process circuit automatically detects, when the system is started, whether or not there is an inter switch. If there is, it operates in the inter switch mode. If there is no inter switch, or if the inter switch or its cable is damaged, preventing the inter switch from being detected, the main CPU automatically operates in the standalone mode. 2-12
