23. It is important for monosaccharide analysis that the tubes be kept clean in a cellulose-free<br />

environment (i.e., no paper, cotton wool, or dust!) because of the common glucose<br />

contamination from the hydrolysis of cellulose and other ubiquitous polysaccharides. For<br />

the same reason a blank of all reagents should be run to establish background contamination<br />

levels.
