The quiet player on this year’s Varsity Field
Flockey Team, would have to be Masako Shimamura.
Although quiet she was very aggressive.
She always seemed to appear at the right place at
the right time to set up good defensive plays.
"Masako has played left full back on the team for
the past two years, and has done a masterful job
of it, according to Coach Kern. For all of her hard
work this year, Masako was awarded the Outstanding
Defensive Player trophy.
A four year veteran of the Varsity Field Hockey
team is Karen Robinson. She not only has been a
good defensive player for all of those years but
has added a lot of laughter to the team. She will
always be remembered as one of its characters.
For the past two years Karen has played Center
Middle so well that she has made the All State
Team in the B division of the Independent Schools
both years. To quote Coach Donna Kern, "Karen
was a really tough defensive player.”
Although this is Ellen Bart’s first year on Varsity
Field Hockey, she has done a tremendous job as
goalie. With 5 shut out games this season, she also
stopped 3 penalty strokes during the second
_ round of the state tournament. A very dedicated
player, she never missed a pre-season practice
and was a regular at the season practices. For her
dedication and hard work this year she received
the Coach’s Award, and Coach Kern’s citation
"Ellen has done a fine job this year.”
