Some of the older generation were alienated by
the bitter attacks on Establishment values by militant
student leaders who supported draft evasion,
demanded a 'democratic' share in university government,
and expressed disenchantment with what
appeared to them as "battery-farming" methods.
Yet when viewed in the historical context, their
demands for 'relevance', and for a part in governing
the institutions are the continuation of characteristic
American traditions in education.
