A former capital of Shang-Dynasty China and the
capital of Henan province, Zhengzhou is considered
one of the birthplaces of early Chinese civilisation
that boasts over 100,000 priceless antiques. It’s
a modern economic and transportation hub and
a popular tourist destination too thanks to its
collection of beautiful locales served by highly
convenient public transportation. Zhengzhou offers
easy access to attractions in outlying areas due to its
close proximity to cities like Luoyang, Anyang
and Kaifeng.
Zhengzhou is famous for the Huang He River or
the Yellow River, which is called so because of the
perennial colour of its muddy water and soil carried
downstream. The first destination on a typical
itinerary is the Huang He River Scenic Area that offers
a magnificent view of the natural surroundings and
boasts stone statues of Yandi and Huangdi that shoot
106 metres in the air. Worth checking out is the City
of God Temple, the largest structure in Henan built in
the Ming Dynasty. Not to be missed are the Shaolin
Temple, the Pagoda Forest and Kung Fu shows.
The Shaolin Temple is a 1,500-year-old Mahayana

A MILLENNIA-OLD CIVILISATION WHERE
THE HUANG HE RIVER RUNS THROUGH.
Buddhist temple situated in a valley of lush
greenery in Dengfeng on Mount Songshan, 1 of the
5 most sacred mountains in Taoism. The temple
boasts magnificent architectural wonders including
the Pagoda Forest with 200 tomb pagodas of
abbots and monks. Most importantly, this temple
plays host to the famous Shaolin Kung Fu school
where kung fu masters perform astonishing martial
arts feats as captured in wu shu movies.
Another must-go place is the Longmen
Grottoes, aka Dragon’s Gate Grottoes, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site, in nearby Luoyang. Located
between 2 mountains with the Yi River on one side,
the place has nearly 2,500 caves spanning
1 kilometre and sheltering over 100,000 statues
of the Buddha dating to the first era of Buddhism
in China. The carved stones range in size from
2 centimetres to 17 metres in height. The most
perfectly carved statue is that of Empress
Wu Zetian.
Travelling in Zhengzhou and nearby cities offers
visitors the chance to soak up the beauty of the
great civilisations of China’s past.

ศิลปะการป้องกันตัวที่ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุดของจีน
ซึ่งหลายคนคุ้นเคยกันดีจากเรื่องราวที่ปรากฏ
ในภาพยนตร์จีนกำลังภายใน
มาถึงเจิ้งโจวแล้ว อีกสถานที่ที่ต้องไป
ยลความงาม นั่นคือถ้ำผาหลงเหมิน หรือ
ถ้ำสวรรค์ประตูมังกร ในเมืองลั่วหยาง ที่อยู่
ไม่ห่างกัน ถ้ำผาแห่งนี้เป็นสิ่งก่อสร้างทาง
พุทธศาสนายุคแรกของจีน ได้ขึ้นทะเบียน
เป็นมรดกโลกโดยองค์การยูเนสโกเช่นกัน
ลักษณะเป็นกลุ่มถ้ำบนหน้าผา 2 ด้านที่
ประจันหน้าเข้าหากัน โดยมีถ้ำเกือบ 2,500
ถ้ำ เรียงรายยาวราว 1 กิโลเมตร และรูป
แกะสลักพระพุทธรูปอีกกว่า 100,000 องค์
ตั้งแต่ขนาดเล็กจิ๋ว 2 เซนติเมตร ไปจนถึง
สูงสุด 17 เมตร ซึ่งรูปแกะสลักที่สมบูรณ์ที่สุด
เป็นรูปพระนางบูเช็กเทียน นอกจากนั้นถ้ำผา
ยังขนาบข้างด้วยแม่น้ำอี้ เหมาะกับการชมวิว
ยามเย็นและชมพระอาทิตย์ตกน้ำด้วย
เที่ยวท่องไปในเมืองเจิ้งโจวและสถานที่
ข้างเคียงครานี้ แม้เป็นเพียงส่วนเสี้ยวที่พาไป
สัมผัส แต่ก็คงทำให้ทุกคนซึมซับกับคุณค่า
และความงามแห่งอารยธรรมพันปีของเมือง
แห่งนี้ได้ไม่น้อยเลย
