For chronic nonspecific, diarrhea consider<br />

decreased fruit juice intake and increased<br />

fat and fiber intake 9,10<br />

Evaluate ratio of energy from fat and carbohydrate in the diet (low fat<br />

diet may contribute to nonspecific diarrhea) 3,9<br />

Evaluate volume of liquids ingested and amount of fruit juice<br />

Tube feeding does not<br />

Consider adjustments to tube feeding<br />

<strong>for</strong>mula, rate, as indicated.<br />

If child is tube-fed evaluate the type and preparation of <strong>for</strong>mula, rate<br />

of feeding, tube position (gastric or small bowel), care of feeding bags<br />

and tubes, etc. Consider changing to a <strong>for</strong>mula <strong>with</strong> added fiber .3,10<br />
