Refer <strong>for</strong> nutrition assessment if signs of behavior problems related to feeding<br />

including:<br />

Interview caregivers about child’s behavior during feeding.<br />

• Disruptive behavior at mealtime<br />

• Refusal to eat<br />

• Voluntary gagging on foods<br />

Review health records <strong>for</strong> signs of behavior problems related to<br />

feeding.<br />

Refer <strong>for</strong> nutrition assessment if inadequate or inappropriate food pattern:<br />

Socioeconomic Characteristics<br />

Obtain by interview or review of health records:<br />

• Insecure food supply<br />

• Inadequate housing<br />

• Abusive home situation<br />

• Financial difficulties<br />

• Family size and income level<br />

• Cultural and familial food patterns<br />

• Adequacy of food resources<br />

• Participation in food and community programs: WIC, Food<br />

Stamps, school food program, food banks<br />

Refer to appropriate social services, nutrition programs, and/or food resources.<br />
