ETBI Journal of Education November 2020 BIOGRAPHIES Dr. Treasa Kirk Assistant Chief Inspector and Head of the Gaeltacht Education Unit in the Department of Education Treasa is responsible for overseeing the phased implementation of the Policy on Gaeltacht Education and the Gaeltacht School Recognition Scheme in the Department of Education. Treasa has extensive expertise and experience in providing policy advice on special education, teacher education, curriculum and assessment, Irish-medium and Gaeltacht education, and has completed evaluations across different school settings. Previously, Treasa served as deputy principal of a primary school with disadvantaged status and as facilitator with the national support services for teachers. Dr. Gerry Shiel Research Fellow at the Educational Research Centre Gerry is the principal researcher of the Research and Evaluation Study on the Gaeltacht School Recognition Scheme. He also works on the PIRLS International Survey and on the National Assessments for English Reading and Mathematics. An tUas. Seán Ó Grádaigh Director, Máistir Gairmiúil San Oideachas (MGO), NUI Galway Seán Ó Grádaigh is a lecturer in education in the School of Education, National University of Ireland, Galway. He teaches primarily in Initial Teacher Education. He has a background as a post-primary Geography teacher and has a particular interest in digital learning but especially in the creation of teaching materials. He has published teaching material for Irish, Geography, History and the sciences. He has been managing the MGO (Professional Masters in Education) at NUI Galway since 2017. Ms. Sinéad Ní Ghuidhir, Director, Máistir Gairmiúil San Oideachas (MGO), NUI Galway Sinéad Ní Ghuidhir is a lecturer in education in the School of Education, National University of Ireland, Galway. She teaches primarily in Initial Teacher Education. Her areas of interest and research are FCÁT / CLiL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and Drama as a Teaching Methodology. She has been managing the MGO (Professional Masters in Education) at NUI Galway since 2017. PAGE 152
ETBI Journal of Education November 2020 Dr. T.J. Ó Ceallaigh Director of the M. Oid. san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge agus Gaeltachta, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick T.J. Ó Ceallaigh is the director of the M. Oid. san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge agus Gaeltachta programme in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. As a former immersion principal, his main research interests focus on the role of the instructional leader, the pedagogy required for the successful integration of language and content instruction and on continuing professional development, with particular reference to language immersion contexts. Dr Ó Ceallaigh has recently co-edited a book on the topic, Teacher Development for Immersion and Content-based Instruction (Benjamins, 2020) with Laurent Cammarata, PhD, University of Alberta, Canada. Dr. Sinéad Andrews Assistant Professor, School of Inclusive and Special Education, Institute of Education, DCU Sinéad Andrews is an Assistant Professor in the School of Inclusive and Special Education in Dublin City University. She has experience of working as a teacher in Irish-medium schools and as Principal of an English-medium school. At present she is teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Institute of Education. Her PhD thesis examined the additional supports required by students with special educational needs in primary Irish-medium schools. She is currently working on developing a continuous professional development programme for teachers in Irish-medium schools to help them meet the special educational needs of their students Professor Pádraig Ó Duibhir Deputy Dean, Institute of Education, DCU and Director, SEALBHÚ Professor Pádraig Ó Duibhir is Deputy Dean of the Dublin City University (DCU) Institute of Education and Director of SEALBHÚ, the DCU Research Centre for the Learning and Teaching of Irish. He gained extensive experience as a primary teacher and principal in the Irish-medium sector before his work in teacher education. His major research interests lie in second language acquisition and pedagogy applied to minority languages. He is joint editor of the Journal of Immersion and Content-Based Language Education. Dr. Joe Travers Head of School, School of Inclusive and Special Education, Institute of Education, DCU Dr Joseph Travers is Associate Professor and the first Head of the School of Inclusive and Special Education in Dublin City University (DCU) Institute of Education, the first education faculty in an Irish university. Previous to this he was Director of Special Education (2008-2016) in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra joining the College in 1998. He is a former primary school teacher. He has published in the areas of policy and practice in special education/learning support for mathematics, inclusion, leadership and early intervention. Dr Travers has been principal investigator on research projects for the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) and for the Department of Education and Skills (DES). He teaches across a range of teacher education programmes from initial to postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Doctoral level. PAGE 153
