Fe.maZe. Length 3.5 mm.; wing 4 mm. Proboscis slender, brown.
Occiput brown, clothed with narrow, curved white scales, some broad
flat scales on the cheeks; erect, forked, brown to black scales numer-
ous on vertex and nape. Mesonotum brown, with two narrow, im-
pressed paler lines ; vestiture of narrow, curved, light brown scales,
paler along the margins and around the antescutellar space. Ab-
domen with black scales having a faint bluish reflection and narrow
apical, segmental, whitish bands widening at the sides; venter whit-
ish scaled. Legs black; under surface of femora, tibiae and a nar-
row line on the first tarsal joint white scaled.
Male hypopygiunk (Fig. 5, Pl. XVI.) Side-pieces more than
twice as long as wide, somewhat tapering; apical lobes distinct, each
bearing seven appendages-two capitate rods, two slightly serrate
setae and three shorter, pointed setae. Clasper shorter than side-
piece, stout, expanded beyond the middle. Tenth sternites prominent,
longer than the mesosome, rather heavily chitinized, each terminat-
ing in a row of short, stout setae. Tenth tergites appear as thin
membranes almost meeting on the mid-dorsal line and slightly chitin-
ized along their median edges. Mesosome shorter than the tenth
segment, strongly chitinized, each half terminating in a serrated tip;
the distal half connected by a narrow bridge. Parameres rather
small and firmly attached to the base of mesosome; basal plates
prominent. Lobes of the ninth tergite not contiguous, short, with
numerous setae.
Larva. (Fig. 6, Pl. XXII.) Length 6-7 mm. Head large, some-
what quadrate, distinctly wider than long; antenna very large, cylin-
drical, constricted beyond the tuft, strongly spined all over; tuft very
large, situated at the outer third; upper and lower dorsal head hairs
single and long; anteantennal tuft multiple. In front of and between
the lower head hairs is a pair of small, fine hairs. Abdominal lateral
hairs of the first and second segments multiple, double on the third to
the sixth. Secondary hairs rather numerous and well developed.
Lateral comb of the eighth segment consists of numerous scales in
a triangular patch. Anal segment nearly twice as long as wide,
ringed by the plate; a small double or multiple hair on the posterior
margin of the plate. Anal gills rather short, as long as or slightly
