evamping of the substation of Chicumbane (110 KV).
• The Unit, in the scope of its strategy for setting itself as one of
the main players currently developing activities in the Angolan
market, was selected for the supply of one of the most signifi cant
projects and of great technical dimension and complexity that
took place in 2010: the supply of 100 kVA substations aimed at
providing street lighting to the rehabilitated Via Expressa Luanda
– Viana. This road is considered to be a strategic route that
connects the city of Luanda to other parts of the country.
• Important orders were received for construction and/or
revamping contracts of SONELGAZ’s substations.
• The Single Power Transmission Plant (diesel-powered
thermoelectric power plants, which integrate more than one
substation) of Santiago, in Cape Verde, which will be the fi rst of 4
expected plants to be put into operation, has already begun. This
project will be carried out by reinforcing the production capacity
and construction of the Substation of Palmarejo, at the charge
of Efacec, after signing a contract with ELECTRA, the company
responsible for the production and distribution of electricity in
Cape Verde, as well as the distribution of drinking water and the
collection, treatment and reuse of wastewaters in certain parts
of the country. The contract concerns Lot 1 from the international
tender “Santiago Island – Power Generation, Transmission and
Distribution Capacity Development Project”. These Power Plants
are the answer to a better energy conservation and rational use
of resources, signifi cantly reducing Cape Verde’s dependence on
petroleum-based fuels.
• The Unit delivered the 220 kV substation of Coronel Oviedo and
the 220 kV substation of Km 30 in Paraguay. These two substations
are the essential equipment for ANDE (the power distributor in
Paraguay) to reinforce the power distribution to the capital city
of Assuncíon from the dam of Itaipú. Besides this reference,
Efacec continued its expansion in Paraguay with other orders, in
particular the SCADA system in the scope of activities developed
by the Automation BU and a set of switchgear units produced by
Efacec Argentina.
Environment
Substation of Maputo
• Regarding its activities in hydropower, Efacec obtained the
adjudication of the ETA (water treatment station) in Cancelas for
Águas do Mondego, the ETAR (wastewater treatment station) in
Vila Nova de Milfontes for Águas Públicas do Alentejo and several
ETARs for Águas do Zêzere e Côa. The contract for the exploitation
of the ETAR in Matosinhos was also renewed. It should also be
highlighted the inauguration of the new small hydro power plant
in Roxo, Aljustrel, which included the presence of the Portuguese
Prime Minister José Sócrates, thus completing one of the most
important stages of the multi-purpose project for Alqueva’s
dam. Comprising a turn-key project, the installed power of the
turbine/alternator set is 1850 kVA. This project is an addition to
the orders received from EDIA for the construction of three other
small hydro power plant (Alvito, Odivelas and Serpa), also turnkey
contracts, reaching a total installed power of 10 225 kVA.
• As for Waste Treatment, Efacec obtained several adjudications
concerning the usage of landfi ll gas. In particular, the order from
several cogeneration groups of Resistrela, Amarsul, Algar, ERSUC,
for an installed power over 15 MW. Operating tests also began
for the Organic Recovery Plants of Valorlis and Suldouro. Equally
important were the composting projects of Fundão/Resistrela,
as well as the mechanical treatment of Amarsul. Still in this
scope, the supply of the Organic Recovery Plant of Suldouro to
EGF - Empresa Geral de Fomento, which belongs to the Águas de
Portugal Group.
• Also for EGF, Efacec won a contract for the design, construction,
supply and assembly of three biogas energy usage systems
produced in the landfi lls of RESULIMA, ERSUC and ALGAR. These
systems produce electricity directly sold to the Portuguese power
grid as a result of the burning of biogas in internal combustion
engines. The total installed power is 4.8 MW.
• The Unit was invited by the Portuguese Minister of the
Environment to be part of the Setting-up Committee of the
Parceria Portuguesa para a Água (Portuguese Water Partnership),
