Still during that day, they interacted with Portuguese-American
political leaders and attended a business meeting in Boston. On the
second day, this time in San Francisco, they visited the Stanford
University and took part in a session with Prof. Burton Lee. On
the third day, a visit was made to the companies of the region
and also to a seminar in the largest incubation center of start-up
companies, the Plug and Play Tech Center, on how to enter the
North-American market. The fourth day of the corporate mission
Volunteer Programmes
During the week of 15th to 19th of November, in the scope of the
Global Week of Entrepreneurship, took place the volunteer initiative
Braço Direito at Efacec. In this programme, high school students
selected by Junior Achievement Portugal will follow a volunteer (in
this case, an employee from Efacec) during an entire work day.
13 students from several schools took part in this programme and also
13 volunteers from the hubs of Arroteia, Maia and Carnaxide, among
which were the CEO of Efacec, Mr. Luís Filipe Pereira. Employees
involved in this event shared their experiences, knowledge and
daily activities with the students, allowing these young people to
learn more about the corporate reality of Efacec and its volunteers.
For the students, who were able to place a wide variety of questions
regarding the duties that are carried out and the personal and
professional characteristics required to perform them, this day spent
at Efacec may have been decisive for their professional choices in
the future and gave them insight on the practical importance of
continuing to dedicate themselves to their studies. For volunteers,
this was certainly a different day, in which they gave their best to
provide a productive and complete training to the young people of
our community.
So, another event made by the partnership between Efacec and
Junior Achievement Portugal (also called “Learning by Enterprising
– Portuguese Association of Young Entrepreneurs”) was concluded.
Efacec has been a member of this partnership since the end of 2008.
In the scope of the Porto de Futuro programme, which Efacec
develops in partnership with the city council of Porto and DREN
(Northern District School Board), the company allowed two
volunteers to take part in the Porto de Futuro com Rugby initiative.
These two volunteers accompanied children that travelled to the
Escola Secundária da Areosa (secondary school of Areosa) to watch
the games of the National rugby team and were present during
the visits the students made to the schools that were part of the
programme. Efacec also offered books (Histórias da Ajudaris 2010,
an initiative of the Ajudaris institution, a social charity association
of Porto) to the children of S. João de Deus School, which belongs
to Agrupamento António Nobre, the partner of Efacec in the Porto
de Futuro programme.
