Small Hydro Power Plant of Meimão
Engineering
In 2010, the Unit signed a protocol with Tecnoveritas to develop
the TURBO-VTEC 245. This new product was characterized and
budgeted, and some of its essential components were designed. In
2011, the host facility will be determined and a prototype will be
developed.
The TURBO-VTEC 245 is a machine that converts kinetic energy into
mechanical energy. This process consists in expanding high pressure
gas upstream to a low pressure downstream, by means of a turbine.
The rotation of the turbine is used by an alternator. This way, the
system is capable of recovering thermal energy and converts it into
electricity. The system’s smaller models (power lower than 250 kW),
including the control unit and heat exchangers, can be installed in a
sea container at 40 feet, requiring only the supply of cooling water
and a 400V connection.
As described in the chapter concerning orders and achievements of
2010, the Unit also underwent several developments in the fi eld of
small hydro power plants, as the example of the new small hydro
power plant of Roxo, in Aljustrel and the new small hydro power
plant of Meimão, in Penamacor and, in the scope of cogeneration,
the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) for the new
cogeneration power plant of the Shopping Mall of Colombo, in
Lisbon.
Automation
Efacec supplies a wide range of automation production in three
main platforms: ScateX+, CLP 500 and SmartPower. The portfolio
of Efacec products is developed internally by a team with great
experience, combining state-of-the-art technology with innovation,
in accordance with the industry’s standards.
SCATEX
Efacec`s most recent investment in solutions for Command Centers
allows our customers to implement SCADA systems for medium and
large sized power grids, including advanced DMS or EMS applications
for distribution or transmission and generation of electricity.
It also provides integrated management applications for railway
systems, supervision of technical infrastructures, training systems
for operators and intervention teams, among others.
Some important objectives of 2010 were:
• HMI improvements: synchronized views, easier navigation
• Feeder schematics: model-driven automatic generation with easy
confi guration
• Online confi guration tool: improvement of the system’s
availability
CLP 500 - Unifi ed Solution
The unifi ed automation solution provides a wide range of Remote
Units, Protection Relays, Controllers, Gateways and SCADA/
HMI Servers in an integrated and open platform regarding
communication, programming, user interface and engineering. The
CLP 500 platform products are designed for an easy integration
in multiple applications from automation of substations, water
management systems to DCS power plants, among others.
SmartPower
With the SmartPower platform, the portfolio’s most recent one,
Efacec presents innovative products for a smart automation,
combining multiple communication technologies with advanced
applications. Solutions such as the automation of Medium/Low
Voltage grids, integration of smart meters and energy conservation
are possible through Efacec’s smart-grid infrastructure technology.
In the scope of advanced energy smart grids and with the
conclusion of the testing phase and commissioning, El Paso Electric
implemented a system for automatic detection of malfunctions,
insulation and restore of distribution lines in Santa Teresa, New
Mexico, by using the FASTapps automation platform from Efacec
Advanced Control Systems.
