Efacec Introduction Programme Efacec Introduction Programme In 2010 the Strategic Management of Human Resources and Communication department promoted another edition of the Group’s Introduction Programme, carried out in sessions at Carnaxide, Maia and Arroteia. The purpose of the programme is to approach Efacec’s younger employees, as well as everyone that recently became part of the company. Efacec’s Introduction Programme included the participation of a total of 170 employees, the company’s CEO - Mr. Luís Filipe Pereira – and the Executive Committee, as well as several directors and heads from several areas of Shared Services and with other corporate roles in the Group. This programme focuses on Efacec’s most important asset - its human capital. It is intended to introduce in detail the current reality of the company in Portugal and in the rest of the world, its present and future strategy, as well as the decisive role that each employee from our organization will play to achieve collective excellence. Life-Work Balance With the purpose of obtaining a continuous life-work balance, Efacec counts on the valuable cooperation from its Employee Associations. These Associations are aimed at promoting the well-being, socialcultural development and use of free time to Efacec Employees and their families by developing a large number of cultural, sport, leisure and social activities. Efacec provided these Associations with facilities and access to computer systems (communication and graphism), in order for them to effi ciently promote their activities. On the other hand, the Associations established protocols and other forms of cooperation with external entities to better carry out their activities, a fact that has been acknowledged by the media. Next are shown some examples of activities promoted by the Associations in 2010: 84 An aspect that is worth mentioning is the improvement of the facilities at the hub of Arroteia, the oldest hub of Efacec. In these last years, several changes were made to improve working conditions, but also to create personal spaces for resting and leisure. In 2010, the break rooms for the areas of Shell and Core-type transformers were completed and the conditions of dressing rooms, locker rooms and bathrooms continued to be improved, with evident results on quality, hygiene and comfort levels. Nearly 70% of these spaces underwent signifi cant interventions since the programme began (2006). The remaining 30% received periodic interventions. In 2010, the locker rooms for the area of Shell-type transformers underwent important adjustments, with the renewal of the lighting, ventilation and heating systems (more effi cient in terms of energy conservation). Empowerment In 2010 the Switchgear Unit began phase II of the Empowerment programme. Over 108 hours of training sessions and workshops were given, resulting in the implementation of 16 teams and 19 brown papers (fl ows of processes) in a total of 58 meters. The Staff Development Index went from 51% to 75%. Social Support for Employees In 2010, Efacec signifi cantly increased its social support to Employees by means of a tight collaboration between the respective employee and Human Resources. In 2011, an increase of situations that require support is expected. Challenges will include ensuring an adequate monitoring of these situations, reducing response time, expanding the corporate contact network and improving integration with other social programmes.
Community Community Support Policy In 2010 was created a policy that establishes the principles and rules for granting sponsorships, donations and charity contributions, which was then published by means of a service instruction. According to this policy, all support proposals addressed to Efacec are analyzed in accordance with objective criteria. Criteria for Analysis of Community Support Proposals In the scope of the Sustainability strategy, Efacec follows a policy for community support actions that promote the company’s cooperation in social, cultural and technological initiatives, based on the following criteria: • Proximity to operations, activity sector, strategic market or geographical hub; • Interest in terms of business, technology or image; • Credibility of the receiving institution; • Soundness of the presented request/proposal. SUPPORTS GRANTED BY EFACEC IN 2010 This way, throughout 2010, Efacec granted many supports, meeting a high number of proposals made from the communities and sectors where it operates. Efacec supported the journey made by elements from 30 Portuguese companies and associations for a one-week visit to the United States. The visit, focussed on new technologies, included the visit to universities and Silicon Valley, the North-American “capital” of technological companies. The organization of the visit involved the participation of the American Chamber of Commerce in Portugal, FLAD (Portuguese-American Development Foundation), ANEMM (Portuguese Association of Metalworking Industries), APDC (Portuguese Association for Communication Development), PALCUS (Portuguese-American Leadership Council of the United States), PAPS (Portuguese-American Post-graduate Society), Plug and Play Tech Center and SRI International. On the fi rst day, the group participated in a seminar in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Professor Charles Fine and visited the labs of the institute.
