• All certifi ed operations in Portugal were also certifi ed in terms of<br />

Quality, Environment and Safety (QES).<br />

• <strong>Efacec</strong> Contracting Central Europe was the fi rst international<br />

subsidiary to obtain the QES certifi cation.<br />

• Control and improvement of work areas, regular visits concerning<br />

Medicine at Work and Safety outsi<strong>de</strong> <strong>Efacec</strong>’s facilities (sites/<br />

contract).<br />

• Ergonomic Analysis of work areas in offi ces, with the cooperation<br />

of Minho University.<br />

• Improvement of Emergency procedures, by increasing the number<br />

of staff from its Private Fire Department in or<strong>de</strong>r to ensure<br />

availability during all work hours.<br />

• I<strong>de</strong>ntifi cation of new requirements and changes for facilities,<br />

taking into account the new applicable legal requirements.<br />

• Inclusion of results from the assessments of visits/audits<br />

concerning Environment and Safety and 5S in the calculation of<br />

the QPR (quality and performance reward).<br />

• At the Industrial hub of Maia, a computer application was created<br />

to manage protection equipments, including the purchase<br />

process.<br />

• At the Industrial hub of Maia and the hub of Carnaxi<strong>de</strong>, the<br />

management of PPEs and uniforms was centralized, improving<br />

technical validation and standardization of equipment used for<br />

many functions.<br />

• 569 visits were ma<strong>de</strong> to work sites, which correspon<strong>de</strong>d to 998<br />

days of visits.<br />

• 10 845 hours of training on Safety were carried out.<br />

• At Arroteia, an access tunnel was built to avoid having Employees<br />

cross a railway line.<br />

• At the hub of Carnaxi<strong>de</strong> a protocol with the Fire Department of<br />

Carnaxi<strong>de</strong> was signed that inclu<strong>de</strong>s, among other aspects, training<br />

sessions on the concerned subjects.<br />

The results obtained in <strong>2010</strong> show a drastic reduction of the number<br />

of work acci<strong>de</strong>nts (from 335 in 2009 to 143 in <strong>2010</strong>), <strong>de</strong>spite<br />

simultaneously witnessing a slight increase of lost work days (from<br />

2847 in 2009 to 3054 in <strong>2010</strong>).<br />

This increase is mainly due to musculoskeletal injuries that occurred<br />

throughout the year and translated into exten<strong>de</strong>d leaves from work.<br />

Traditional Safety indicators translate the improvement verifi ed<br />

with the exception of the Duration in<strong>de</strong>x.<br />

In 2011, several actions will be ma<strong>de</strong> to improve the response time<br />

to emergencies and fi res, the training and awareness of Employees,<br />

the improvement of ergonomics at work posts and also reduce the<br />

Acci<strong>de</strong>nts in<strong>de</strong>x.<br />
