• All certifi ed operations in Portugal were also certifi ed in terms of
Quality, Environment and Safety (QES).
• Efacec Contracting Central Europe was the fi rst international
subsidiary to obtain the QES certifi cation.
• Control and improvement of work areas, regular visits concerning
Medicine at Work and Safety outside Efacec’s facilities (sites/
contract).
• Ergonomic Analysis of work areas in offi ces, with the cooperation
of Minho University.
• Improvement of Emergency procedures, by increasing the number
of staff from its Private Fire Department in order to ensure
availability during all work hours.
• Identifi cation of new requirements and changes for facilities,
taking into account the new applicable legal requirements.
• Inclusion of results from the assessments of visits/audits
concerning Environment and Safety and 5S in the calculation of
the QPR (quality and performance reward).
• At the Industrial hub of Maia, a computer application was created
to manage protection equipments, including the purchase
process.
• At the Industrial hub of Maia and the hub of Carnaxide, the
management of PPEs and uniforms was centralized, improving
technical validation and standardization of equipment used for
many functions.
• 569 visits were made to work sites, which corresponded to 998
days of visits.
• 10 845 hours of training on Safety were carried out.
• At Arroteia, an access tunnel was built to avoid having Employees
cross a railway line.
• At the hub of Carnaxide a protocol with the Fire Department of
Carnaxide was signed that includes, among other aspects, training
sessions on the concerned subjects.
The results obtained in 2010 show a drastic reduction of the number
of work accidents (from 335 in 2009 to 143 in 2010), despite
simultaneously witnessing a slight increase of lost work days (from
2847 in 2009 to 3054 in 2010).
This increase is mainly due to musculoskeletal injuries that occurred
throughout the year and translated into extended leaves from work.
Traditional Safety indicators translate the improvement verifi ed
with the exception of the Duration index.
In 2011, several actions will be made to improve the response time
to emergencies and fi res, the training and awareness of Employees,
the improvement of ergonomics at work posts and also reduce the
Accidents index.
