Efacec Day at MU (Minho University)
Following the Group’s wide internationalization strategy, the
Information Systems team also continued, during 2010, the
international expansion of its ERP, which began to be used in
4 of Efacec’s companies in Spain in three different geographical
facilities.
It should also be mentioned that during 2010 was carried out a large
project in the Information Systems area that consisted in adapting
the ERP and other applications to the merger of the companies
Efacec Sistemas de Electrónica, Efacec Automação e Robótica,
Efacec Ambiente and Efacec Engenharia into a single legal company:
Efacec Engenharia e Sistemas.

Sustainability
The IQS area develops activities with an impact on the three pillars
of sustainable development: Innovation, Quality and Sustainability.
Innovation
The Colombo programme is an initiative from Efacec with the purpose
at stimulating ideas from its employees. This programme, which
is explained in detail further on, is coordinated by the Innovation
department. In 2010, Efacec strengthened its already close relations
with associations, universities and technological institutions.
Efacec employees were invited to share their experiences in several
events, such as the conference Conferência Energia (Grande
Porto subregion), the conference Control Methodologies and
Technology for Energy Effi ciency (IFAC), the conference Conferência
Sustentabilidade - O Desafi o para a Reputação (BCSD Portugal, Abreu
Advogados, GCI and Inspire), the conference Conferência Nacional
da Água (Água e Ambiente newspaper), the workshop O Impacto
Económico do Investimento em Ciência (INESC) and the congress
Restart: Novos desafi os, Novas soluções (APDC).
Efacec actively takes part in several technological programmes and
skill networks, particularly EnergyIN (Energy Competiveness Hub),
TICE (Information Technologies, Communication and Electronics
Competiveness Hub), Produtech, European Concept, TCLOUDS
(Trustworthy Clouds), CEIIA, ITS, among others.
In 2010, Efacec renewed its agreement with FEUP and maintained its
institutional relations with UM, IST, ISEP, UA and EGP. The company
took part in several initiatives from universities, namely in job
forum and events organized by students. In July, the event “Dia UM
na Efacec” (Day ONE at Efacec) was carried out with the purpose
of bringing together the several RD teams from Efacec and the
University of Minho, in keeping with “Dia UM na Efacec” from 2009.
The active participation during the second phase of the COTEC
DSIE initiative (aimed at the sustained development of corporate
innovation), reinforcing Efacec’s connection with SCTN (Portuguese
Scientifi c and Technological System) as well as with companies that
have shown interest in the management of their innovation activities.
Efacec was present in several activities concerning this initiative,
of which is worth to highlight the publishing of the Guia de Boas
Práticas – Gestão de Inovação (Guide of Good Gractices – Innovation
Management) and the creation of the Barómetro de Inovação.
As a result of recent interactions with the scientifi c and technological
community, Efacec carried out several RDI programmes, including
the development of an automated storage with energy recovery,
development of the Manutenção+ system, the photocatalysis
project, the project for energy recovery of room temperature, the
Solarcel project (innovative system for sealing and assembling DSCs),
the Ecorail and Prosinal projects, the railroad and road command
center projects, the electric bus project (COBUS C5 EL), the project
for charging stations of electric vehicles, the CTTB and MFS space
projects, the development of the new gas-free Fluofi x and Fluofi x
for renewable energies, the innovations introduced in the design and
