Strategic Management of Purchases<br />
In <strong>2010</strong>, the Strategic Management of Purchases <strong>de</strong>partment<br />
<strong>de</strong>veloped several processes to improve its activities. It should me<br />
mentioned that in the 20 countries with largest supply volume (97.4%<br />
of the total) are inclu<strong>de</strong>d 9 countries where <strong>Efacec</strong> is established<br />
(Portugal, United States, Spain, Brazil, Algeria, Argentina, Angola,<br />
India and Austria), corresponding to 82.1% of this volume (EUR 412.5<br />
million).<br />
The remaining value is shared by 11 countries in the Rest of the World<br />
(RoW). So, this relation is evi<strong>de</strong>nce of the contribution ma<strong>de</strong> to the<br />
<strong>de</strong>velopment of the regions where our activities are <strong>de</strong>veloped.<br />
Portugal, the country where the Group was created, has the highest<br />
value of purchases (over 50% of the total). It is also possible to<br />
observe the increasing investment ma<strong>de</strong> in the new strategic market<br />
of the USA, which in <strong>2010</strong> was the 2nd country that the <strong>Efacec</strong> Group<br />
used the most to purchase resources for its activities.<br />

In the past year, Purchase Or<strong>de</strong>rs were ma<strong>de</strong> with a total of 6776<br />
different partners, out of which 2099 had a business volume over EUR<br />
10 000 and 167 reached superior levels with EUR 500 000. In <strong>2010</strong>,<br />
the Group carried out movements with external partners amounting<br />
to EUR 399.7 million.<br />
Regarding Strategic Management of Purchases, the employees of the<br />
Group that are involved in Purchases must be experts in the fi eld.<br />
For this reason, a course about the area of Purchases was specifi cally<br />
<strong>de</strong>veloped for these employees with the purpose of <strong>de</strong>veloping and<br />
improving their knowledge, and given by an internationally renowned<br />
management school. Internally, training sessions were also <strong>de</strong>veloped<br />
to a large number of employees about the rules and procedures<br />
implemented by the Strategic Management of Purchases team with<br />
the purpose of optimizing the value chain and involving employees in<br />
activities concerning Corporate Purchases.<br />
Summary of <strong>2010</strong> activities<br />
• Establishment of agreements and partnerships with strategic<br />
suppliers Worldwi<strong>de</strong>, a result of the enhancement of strategic<br />
and cross-functional synergies in the Group;<br />
• Implementation of control tools and monthly and quarterly<br />
reporting of Purchases & Procurement activities in the<br />
majority of the Business Units in Portugal;<br />
• Issue of new General Conditions for Purchases for the <strong>Efacec</strong><br />
Group’s companies in Portugal, taking into account the<br />
current macroeconomic and social factors, along with the new<br />
market ten<strong>de</strong>ncies;<br />
• Specifi cation of an encoding system for corporate articles;<br />
• Specifi cation of a Supplier Relationship Manager with the<br />
purpose of tightening relations and promoting the cooperation<br />
with our partners, improving transparency, visibility and<br />
communication of purchase processes;<br />
• Establishment of new corporate rules and procedures for<br />
Purchases.<br />
Activities planned for 2011<br />
• Development and modular implementation of the new<br />
Supplier Relationship Manager (<strong>Efacec</strong> Strategic Sourcing Tools<br />
- efasst);<br />
• Extension of the implementation of control tools and reporting<br />
P&P activities in the remaining Business Units in Portugal and<br />
in the Market Units of Latin America, Spain and Algeria;<br />
• Develop and implement new General Conditions for Purchases<br />
(like the ones currently used for the MU of Portugal) in the<br />
Main Strategic Market Units;<br />
• Introduction of bids from large suppliers that wish to provi<strong>de</strong><br />
wi<strong>de</strong>r transparency, equity of information and conditions for<br />
our current and potential partners;<br />
• Implementation and coordination of a Supplier Award with the<br />
purpose of acknowledging and encouraging common efforts<br />
between the Group and its more dynamic partners.
