Developments in Business Internationalization<br />
The internationalization process of <strong>Efacec</strong>’s businesses encompasses a complex organization and investment and is based on medium and longterm<br />
<strong>de</strong>velopment concepts. The projects concerning the main Business Internationalization projects carried out this year – already mentioned<br />
in the most importante events of <strong>2010</strong> – are <strong>de</strong>scribed in <strong>de</strong>tail below.<br />
USA<br />
On the 19th of April <strong>2010</strong>, <strong>Efacec</strong> inaugurated <strong>Efacec</strong> Power<br />
Transformers, Inc..<br />
In approximately two years, the challenging goal of establishing<br />
a company in the USA became a reality. The achievement of this<br />
objective was possible due to the quality, great effort and <strong>de</strong>dication<br />
of those involved. The fact that the State of Georgia regar<strong>de</strong>d this<br />
investment to be a Project Supreme, confi rms the excellence and<br />
innovation of this project.<br />
After several months of negotiation between <strong>Efacec</strong> and several U.S.<br />
states, it was agreed, in 2007, by both of <strong>Efacec</strong>’s Sharehol<strong>de</strong>rs and<br />
by the State of Georgia, to carry out the large construction project<br />
for the new Transformers Factory, whose overall cost amounted to<br />
USD 180 million.<br />
To <strong>de</strong>velop and implement this project, a steering committee was<br />
created to monitor its various phases.<br />
Located in Rincon, Effi ngham County, 250 miles from Atlanta, the<br />
capital of the State of Georgia (close to the Port of Savannah),<br />
the factory can be found next to Highway 21, Savannah Technical<br />
College’s Effi ngham campus and the future Effi ngham Career<br />
Aca<strong>de</strong>my.<br />
The new factory was <strong>de</strong>signed to fulfi l the needs of <strong>Efacec</strong>’s<br />
customers at the northern part of the country, including most of<br />
the major companies in the USA. The project used advanced ecofriendly<br />
technologies to protect this environmentally diverse and<br />
<strong>de</strong>licate region of the country.<br />
Production in these facilities began on the second half-year of 2009<br />
and, up to 2015, <strong>Efacec</strong> Power Transformers will create a total of<br />
600 new jobs.<br />
Eight core-type power transformers (20, 25, 40, 47, 60, 115 and 153<br />
MVA) were completed: two 20 MVA transformers were <strong>de</strong>livered to<br />
Colorado River and Nevada Energy; the 25 and 40 MVA transformers<br />
were for <strong>Efacec</strong> Power Transformers, Inc. itself; the 47 MVA<br />
transformer for Oncor; the 60 MVA one for Georgia Power; and the<br />
115 MVA one for NextEra Energy.<br />
With a maximum power of 115 MVA, this 115 kV high voltage<br />
transformer was the fi rst one to be dispatched from this new factory<br />
and was <strong>de</strong>livered to the wind farm of New Mexico – Red Mesa Wind,<br />
LLC Project.<br />
It should be noted that for the assembly of this transformer new<br />
types of windings were used: a helitran layer with netting tape in<br />
low voltage (conductor without insulation paper) and a winding with<br />
shields for high voltage. This way, it was possible to reduce the cost<br />
of the product and also production time.<br />
To celebrate the dispatch of the fi rst transformer, a product of work<br />
<strong>de</strong>veloped since September 2009, <strong>Efacec</strong> Power Transformers invited<br />
all 150 employees from the different areas (who contributed either<br />
directly or indirectly for this occasion), to witness the opening of the<br />
shipping gate and the exit of the fi rst transformer.<br />
A CORE GSU transformer with 153 MVA was also manufactured for<br />
Fagen to be put in operation soon at the new 100 MW Biomass<br />
First Transformer ma<strong>de</strong> by <strong>Efacec</strong> Power Transformers<br />
