In 2010, the important certifi cation of the RDI Management System
for Renewable Energies was obtained. This was the third certifi cation
obtained by Efacec in accordance with the standard NP 4457:2007IDI.
The answer to national surveys such as the IPCTN (survey for
Portuguese Scientifi c and Technological Potential), managed by the
GPEARI (Planning, Strategy, Assessment and International Relations
Cabinet) from the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and
Higher Education, placed Efacec as one of the most innovative
companies in Portugal with an RDI investment close to EUR 12
million, showing the undeniable commitment that the Group has in
Research, Development and Innovation.
Quality
With the certifi cation of the Servicing Unit in Environment and
Safety, which took place in 2010, Efacec has completed its QES
certifi cation programme for all Portuguese companies. Efforts are
now focused on the certifi cation of its international subsidiaries
(several certifi cations have already took place in 2010). Central
Europe was the fi rst company outside the Portuguese market to
obtain the QES certifi cation, while Efacec Sistemas de España and
Efacec Power Transformers Inc. obtained certifi cations for Quality
Management Systems.
In 2010, Efacec initiated a project to develop a corporate system
for, namely, managing all RDI, Quality, Environment and Safety
documentation, as well as a set of other non-fi nancial information
not available in other systems. The SiGefa QES Documentation
Management module went into operation successfully by the end
of 2010 and is expected to store all documentation concerning
corporate procedures. The implemented system integrates version
management functions, approval processes and publishing functions.
Presently, the events module is already undergoing its fi nal
development stage.
The SiGefa QES system extends to all international subsidiaries of
Efacec. At the same time, a corporate system was developed with the
purpose of obtaining information and assessing external Customer
Satisfaction. This way, the analysis of Customer Satisfaction is now
very swift, provides a corporate view of satisfaction levels and the
image conveyed to Customers is much more even.
As for Environment, it is worth mentioning the real-time monitoring
system implemented at Efacec Energia and that collects information
from 22 power consumption points. By analyzing several Monitoring
Letters and approaching the energy users themselves, it is possible
to identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption. At this time,
Efacec has already detected situations in which the applied loads
are not justifi ed and is studying joint solutions with the production
and logistics departments.
Between the 22nd and the 26th of March, the Hub of Arroteia
held the SSSA (Safety, Health and Environment Week). Safety,
Ergonomics, Emergency, Environment and Health were the fi ve
themes approached in this initiative. On the day dedicated to
Emergency, Efacec counted on the participation from three external
fi re departments and the Polícia de Segurança Pública (Portuguese
Public Security Police) to perform four large simulations as close as
possible to real situations. Efacec’s Private Fire Department took
advantage of the situation to use new fi re-fi ghting suits and new
autonomous breathing equipment. Ergonomics awareness sessions
were carried out in the scope of Health, Safety and Well-being of
Employees. Some examples of available activities included: a Sketch
about security, environment and the 5S; the promotion of correct
ergonomic postures; massage sessions; and activities promoting the
use of PPE. In addition, Health Spots received a lot of attention,
observing over 600 people. Screenings were made for heart diseases,
including a Smoke Check and spirometry. As for Environment, several
activities connected to natural resources were promoted, especially
regarding water. The event also included a showroom of products
and services related to Safety.
Efacec also created an Internal Safety Service and increased
the number of staff from its Private Fire Department in order to
ensure availability during all work hours. Besides this, the results
from assessments made of visits/audits concerning Environment
and Safety and 5S began to infl uence the calculation of the QPR
(Quality and Performance Reward). It was also initiated an analysis
of ergonomics at the offi ce, with the collaboration of the University
of Minho. The management of PPE (personal protection equipment)
and uniforms was centralized, improving technical validation and
standardization of equipment used for many functions.
The concern with Safety obviously surpasses the scope of Efacec’s
facilities. In 2010, 569 visits were made to work sites, which
corresponded to 998 days of visits. Visits concerning Medicine at
Work were also made. As a result of all this effort, REN awarded
